Published Date: 23rd May 2025

If you're into hiking, history, or just chasing views that make you forget city life even exists, you need to do this one. Tucked away in the Western Ghats of Maharashtra, Harishchandragad isn’t just a trek, it’s a full-on experience.

Whether you’re new to trekking or the kind who casually climbs cliffs for fun, there’s a route for you. And yeah, the view from the top? Unreal.

Trek Routes:

There’s no one-size-fits-all here. You can go chill or full savage mode. Here are the main routes:

1. Pachnai Route (Easy Mode)
Perfect for beginners or anyone short on time.
⏱️ Takes about 2–3 hours to reach the top
🏞️ Gradual incline, stunning views
🚩 Ideal for families or casual trekkers

2. Khireshwar Route (Moderate)
A bit tougher, but worth the sweat.
⏱️ Takes 4–5 hours
🌳 Walks through forest trails, small streams, and rocky bits
📸 Lots of Instagram-worthy stops

3. Nalichi Vaat (Extreme)
For the daredevils and hardcore trekkers (Open only in winters and summers).
⏱️ Takes much longer, and you’ll be climbing rocks
🧗 Requires climbing skills, not recommended for first-timers
🚨 You’ll need a guide and gear

 🏰 What’s at the Top?

The fort isn’t just some old structure, it’s got serious character. Once you reach the top, here's what’s waiting:
🌄 Konkan Kada – A massive, curved cliff with sweeping views. Sunset here? Unreal.
🕉️ Kedareshwar Cave – Home to a huge Shivling, surrounded by water. Feels almost magical.
⛲ Pushkarni – An ancient stepwell that’s super photogenic and steeped in history
🛕 Scattered temples, caves, and ruins that give you glimpses into the past

🚗 How to Reach Harishchandragad

Getting to the base village depends on which route you're taking:

By Car:
Pachnai (easiest access): Best reached via Rajur – good roads, shorter distance.
Khireshwar: Route via Malshej Ghat – scenic drive, especially during monsoon.
Nalichi Vaat: Access through Belpada village, near Murbad.

By Train:
Closest major station: Igatpuri or Kalyan, depending on your route. From there, you’ll need a local taxi or shared jeep to the base village.

By Bus:
MSRTC buses are available from Mumbai, Pune, or Nashik to towns like Aale Phata, Rajur, or Malshej, and then local transport to the base.
