Guide to the Annapurna Base Camp Trek


The Annapurna Base Camp trek is one of Nepal’s most iconic and accessible treks, offering a stunning journey to the foot of some of the world's tallest mountains. This route takes you through picturesque landscapes and allows you to spend nights at two renowned base camps, with breathtaking close-up views of Annapurna I and Machapuchare. Situated at an elevation of 4,130m (13,549 ft), Annapurna Base Camp offers a moderate trek that brings you incredibly close to Annapurna Peak—one of the world’s 8,000-meter peaks and the first of these giants to be summited. Along the trail, you’ll enjoy spectacular views of the majestic Fishtail (Machhapuchhre), the Annapurna range, and the towering Dhaulagiri Peak.


Day 1: Arrive today at Pokhara by today afternoon

We will start the trek with a bang tomorrow. People who came early in the morning can have a paragliding session and we will take a canoe in the aernoon to see the Shanti stupa. People reaching late today can do all these things aer the trek as well, just keep an extra day in Pokhara.
The 1-hour trek to Shanti Stupa will also act as a good warm-up session for all of us.
Overnight Stay (Check-in at 12) At Pokhara

Day 2: Drive from Pokhara to Nayapul (1,700 m) and Trek to Chhomrong (2,140 m) via Ghandruk (1,940 m)

Gentle walk along Modi Khola.
Pass through terraced elds and lush forests.
Visit Ghandruk, a traditional Gurung village with stunning views of Annapurna South and Machapuchare.
A steep ascent to Chhomrong, a vibrant village perched on a ridge 
Overnight Stay: Teahouse in Chhomrong

Day 3 : Chhomrong (2,140 m) to Himalaya (2,920 m) via Bamboo Village (2,335 m)

Descend to Chhomrong Khola and climb through rhododendron and bamboo forests.
Pass through the serene Bamboo village and continue uphill to the Himalaya.
Overnight Stay: Teahouse in Himalaya

Day 4 : Himalaya (2,920 m) to Machhapuchchhre Base Camp (3,700 m) via Deurali (3,200 m)

Gradual ascent through glacial valleys and rocky terrain.
Stop at Deurali for rest and refreshments.
Reach Machhapuchchhre Base Camp (MBC) with breathtaking views of Machhapuchchhre (Fishtail Peak).
Overnight Stay: Teahouse at MBC. 

Day 5 : Machhapuchchhre Base Camp (3,700 m) to Annapurna Base Camp (4,130 m) and Return to Bamboo (2,335 m)

Early morning hike to Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) for a panoramic sunrise over the Annapurna massif.
Marvel at 360-degree views of Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Glacier Dome.
Retrace your steps to Bamboo via MBC and Deurali. 
Overnight Stay: Teahouse in Bamboo.

Day 6 : Bamboo (2,335 m) to Jhinu Danda (1,725 m), Enjoy Hot Springs, and Trek to Nayapul

Pass through Chhomrong and descend steeply to Jhinu Danda. Enjoy a relaxing soak in the natural hot springs near Jhinu Danda. Continue trekking to Nayapul and transfer to Pokhara.
Overnight Stay: Pokhara.

Day 7 : Reserve Day

You Can Go For Paragliding/ Bungee at Pokhara and Start from Pokhara

Day 8 : Depart from Sonauli to Gorakhpur

Reach Sonauli By next day Early Morning and Take a Bus/Taxi to Gorakhpur Airport and Reach Gorakhpur By 11 AM

  2. How hard is it to walk to Annapurna base camp?
    The difficulty level of Annapurna base camp trek in moderate .It’s not a technical climb and if you’re t enough, mentally and physically, you’re more than likely to be up to the challenge. This is a moderate trek at altitude.
     
  3. How long should you train for the Annapurna base camp?
    You should start your physical preparation at least 2 months ahead of your climb. If you do not have access to hills and mountains, then you need to focus more on the strength and conditioning for the trek to Everest Base Camp. 

4.  How long does the Annapurna base camp trek take?
      For Annapurna Base Camp Trek it takes 09 days to complete the trek. 

5.  Is there WIFI at the Annapurna base camp?
     Most of the tea houses on the trek have WIFI facility. But you have to pay for using the WIFI facility. The speed is not so good. It is good enough to send WhatsApp   
     messages.

6.  Is there cell service in Annapurna base camp trek?
     You will get the cell coverage in Annapurna Base Camp Trek. The service will not be available in all the areas, you will get the network at dierent areas throughout the   
     Annapurna Base Camp trek. NCell and Nepal Telecom works best in the region

7.  Will there be water sources on the way? Will two litres of water be enough?
      Bottled water can be purchased at most tea houses and shops along the route. Because of the altitude, it is recommended you drink in the region of 3-4 litres per  
      day, although this can include tea and soup. We recommend using Lifestraw bole. It will save you a lot of money because the higher you go the higher the prices for  
      the bottled water.

8.  Are there any electricity charging points on this trek?
     Most the tea houses on the Everest base Camp trek have charging facility. But you have to pay to avail this facility.

9.  Can I keep extra luggage at Pokhara and collect it from there after the trek?
      Yes, there is a facility to keep your extra luggage at Pokhara. You keep it at the hotel where you will be staying.

10. Is Travel Insurance Necessary for the Annapurna Base Camp Trek?
      Travel insurance is highly recommended for the Annapurna Base Camp Trek to cover unexpected medical emergencies, trip cancellations, and evacuation services. 
      Ensure that your insurance policy includes coverage for high-altitude trekking and activities such as helicopter rescue if needed.

11. What is the accommodation like during the trek?
       Accommodation during the Annapurna Base Camp Trek is primarily in teahouses or guesthouses along the trail. Teahouses oer basic but comfortable amenities, 
       including dormitory-style or private rooms with shared bathrooms.

12. What is the level of Fitness required for the Annapurna Base Camp Trek?
       The Annapurna Base Camp Trek requires a moderate level of tness, with daily trekking durations ranging from 4 to 8 hours over varied terrain. Trekkers should be 
       comfortable walking on uneven trails, ascending and descending steep sections, and carrying a daypack with essential items. Regular cardiovascular exercise and  
       strength training prior to the trek can help improve endurance and reduce fatigue.

13. Are There Restrooms Facilities Along the Annapurna Base Camp Trek Route ?
      Teahouses and lodges along the trekking route typically have basic restroom facilities, including squat toilets or pit toilets. It's advisable to carry your supply of toilet 
      paper and hand sanitizer as restroom amenities can vary in cleanliness and availability.


The best way to reach Annapurna, Pokhara is from Gorakhpur. Beer to travel from your city to the Gorakhpur, Uar Pradesh via train, ight or taxi or bus which ts in your budget. Nepal border is 95km from Gorakhpur and 300km is Pokhara from Gorakhpur.
