The Kuari pass means the Doorway. This trek was explored by Lord Curzon and is also knows as the Curzon trail. The pass lies at an altitude of 3876 m. The trek passes through Pristine Rhododendron, oak, and deodar forest covered in layers of snow. The Kuari Pass trek is a highly varied & scenic trek. When on this trail you find yourself walking under a perfect marquee of trees. It is a series of forests and meadows. The peaks of Kamet, Dronagiri, Trishul, Bertholi, Hathi Ghodi Parvat, Mana and Neelkanth all stand majestically. The Kuari pass trek is a great choice for beginners as well as well trained trekkers. Since the trail of the trek is not very tough the beginners have a chance to learn all about trekking and experience the Himalayas. For more seasoned trekkers, Kuari pass trek is the best way to rejuvenate. Kuari Pass trek best time is from December to March as the entire trail is covered in snow. 


Day 1 : Rishikesh to Joshimath

  • Altitude: 6,900 ft
  • Time Taken: 8-10 hour drive from Rishikesh

Day 2 : Joshimath to Gulling top/Akhrotghetta

  • A short drive to Dhak from Joshimath and start trek from Dhak village.
  • Altitude: 6,900 ft (2,103 m) to 9,396 ft (2,864 m)
  • Time taken: 5-6 hours trek from Dhak to Gulling top
  • Trek gradient: Moderate. Continuous ascent – steep for the first 20 minutes followed by 45 minutes gradual ascent. Steep again for 60-70 minutes followed by a mix of gradual and steep ascents for 1.5-2 hours

Day 3 : Guling to Khullara

  • Altitude: 9,396 ft (2,864 m) to 11,125 ft (3,391 m)
  • Time taken: 3-4 hours
  • Trek gradient: Moderate. Moderate ascent all the way to Khullara

Day 4 : Khullara to Chitrakantha/Tali via Kuari Pass

  • Altitude: 11,100 ft (3,352 m) to 11,503 ft (3,506 m) via 12,516 ft (3,815 m)
  • Time taken: 8 hours
  • Trek gradient: Moderate. Steep climb for 1-1.5 hours followed by a moderate ascent for 1.5 hours. Slight descent for about 40 minutes to Kuari Pass. Descent for about 1.5 hours followed by 1 hour ascent easing off into a moderate descent for about 2 hours.
  • Water sources: You can refill your water bottles from streams along the trail.

Day 5 : Chitrakantha/Tali to Auli

Altitude: 11,503 ft (3,506 m) to 8,790 ft (2,679 m)

Time taken: 4-5 hours

Trek gradient: Moderate. Gradual ascent for about 40 minutes followed by a 20 minutes steep climb. Around 45 minutes of gradual ascent which eases off into a descending trail for about 3 hours.

Day 6 : Drive from Auli to Rishikesh

  • Reach rishikesh by 7:00 PM

  • Comfortable Trekking shoes.
  • A sturdy Backpack (40-60 litres) with rain cover.

    • Two trek pants
    • Five Warm Layers- This includes full sleeve tee shirt, thermals, fleece, sweater and jacket.
    • Three collared t-shirts.
    • Thermals (Mandatory): Carry thermals to wear at night because the temperature drops considerably.
  • Accessories
    • Sunglasses
    • Suncap
    • Synthetic hand gloves
    • Balaclava or woollen scarves
    • Two sports socks and a pair of woollen socks for the night.
    • Headlamp/LED torch: Mandatory
    • Trekking pole

    • Daypack (20 litres)
    • Toiletries: Sunscreen, moisturizer, light towel, lip balm, toilet paper, toothbrush, toothpaste, hand sanitiser.
    • Cutlery:Carry a spoon, coffee mug and a lunch box.
    • Two water bottles: 1 litre each
    • Plastic covers: While packing, use plastic bags to compartmentalise things and carry few extra plastic bags for wet clothes.

  • Accommodation – Stay is included from Day 1 to Day 5(Camping).
  • Meals – All meals from dinner on Day 1 to Breakfast on Day 6 are included. We provide simple, nutritious vegetarian food on all days of the trek.
  • Camping charges – All trekking permits and forest camping charges are included.
  • Trekking equipment – We provide ice axes, ropes, micro spikes, gaiters etc. as required.
  • Safety equipment – First aid, medical kit, oxygen cylinders, stretchers etc. will be available at all campsites to deal with emergencies.
  • Services of an expert Trek Leader – All our trek leaders are qualified in basic / advanced mountaineering courses.

  • Transport to and from the Rishikesh.
  • Food during transit to and from the base camp
  • Backpack offloading charges – If you wish to offload your backpack, there will be an additional charge of Rs. 500 + 5% GST. The backpack cannot weigh more than 9 kg. Suitcases/strolleys/duffel bags will not be allowed. Please note that charges will vary for last minute offloading in case you decide to offload your bag after reaching Govind Ghat (Rs. 350 per day inclusive of tax).
