Harihar Fort is 1120metres (3,676 feet) above sea level. Harihar Fort Trek is a small yet tiring trek. The fort is situated in the Trimbakeshwar mountain ranges offers stunning views of the area around. Harihar fort appears to be rectangular in shape from its base. It is built on a triangular prism of rock. Its three faces and two edges are absolutely vertical 90 degrees. The third edge towards the west is inclined at an angle of 75 degrees. A one-meter wide rocky staircase with niches in it is carved out for ascending &amp; descending.&nbsp;The last 200 feet of the trek is a climb through steep rock-cut stairs inclined at 80 degrees. The descent is particularly exhilarating as you have to climb down and at one point face a sheer 500 ft drop. The architecture of the stairs is so diverse and outstanding and offers spectacular and occasionally scary views of the valley below. Harihar fort offers a 360-degree view of the Sahyadri range. Bhaskargad, Utwad fort, Anjaneri fort, Brahma Parvat, Navra-Navri peak, Brahmagiri are a few of the many forts that can be seen from here.&nbsp;The base village for the Harihar fort trek is Nirgudpada village (Kotamwadi). Harihar Dhaba is the exact point where your trek starts. The trail is pretty obvious crossing through fields and small streams. Once you cross the fields the trail gradually starts climbing up into the forest areas. After a 45 mins walk from here you will reach the plateau. Here ends the first section of the trek. This is also the point where the alternative route from Harshewadi joins too. From this point, you can see the difficult part of the trek, the iconic rock-cut steps. There are around 200 steps in all. After you climb the first rocky staircase main entrance you walk through below an overhang with a sheer drop. There are notches carved in for support. Place your foot consciously. During monsoon season they become slippery because of the moss formation. After a climb of 90 steps, you reach a door, from the door the trail takes you to a left transverse. To your left is the valley and towards your right is the wall of the fort. You then encounter another set of steep stairs around 100 in number to reach the top of the fort. The top opens up with a cave and further you can see small ponds, a couple of temples dedicated to Lord Hanuman and Shiva. Another 10-15 mins of the trek take you to the highest point of the fort. Enjoy the spectacular views from the top of the fort. The descend is the same route as the ascend. But one has to be extra cautious descending the steps. Use the three-point safety technique where you use your two hands and one leg in contact with the surface in every step that you take while facing the mountain.Best time to visit:The months from June to February are the best time to visit Harihar fort. During monsoon, you get to see lush green sceneries and in post monsoon season you have clearer views of your surroundings. Avoid summers since the weather can be extremely hot. Mt Kalsubai is the highest peak(1646 meters) in Maharashtra and a definite destination. The trek offers a mesmerizing combination of waterfalls, forests, field lands, and historic forts.&nbsp;Being the highest peak, it commands a beautiful view of the surrounding forts. You can see Bhandardara backwaters and the peaks of Ramsej, Harihargad, Brahmagiri, Anjaneri, Ghargad, Bahula, Tringalwadi, Kavnai, to the north; Aundha, Vishramgad, Bitangad, to the east; Alang, Madangad, Kulang, to the west; Ratangad at the south-west and to the south you will be able to see Prabhalgad, Ghanchakkar, and Harishchandragad.&nbsp;Scaling Kalsubai has become something of a rite of passage for ardent trekkers. The trek is moderately difficult, passing through lush paddy fields, jungles, small streams, highlands, and rocky terrains, and takes around 3-4 hours, with short intervals in between, to reach the crest of Kalsubai.&nbsp;The base village Bari is a farming village and from the start of the trek, you will walk through extensive farms. This is the best of the trek and is an easy enjoyable walk. Once you reach the end of the village you’ll find a small stream (which needs to be crossed), and a Hanuman temple. The route from the temple leads straight to the peak and is well-marked so there is no risk of getting lost. During monsoons, there is a patch of fresh slush near the paddy fields, so don't worry much about the stains, they're bound to happen. Following the fields, you’ll go through a short forest section. Here ends your first section of the trek and the easy part too. The second section is Up the hill, and what you’ll see is white times infinity. Fog. Clouds. Drizzle. Wind. And in all this come the ladders! Wobbly as they are, one-at-a-time climb on the ladder, less support, you start thinking about all the things you had ever wanted to do in life. There are five such ladders en route to the top. The ladder section is the challenging part of the trek. After this, you’ll reach a viewpoint that is usually misassumed as the pinnacle but it’s not. From the viewpoint area, you’ll have to walk for another 10 mins for the final summit. Once you reach the peak, you’re above the clouds!&nbsp;The final summit is where the Kalsubai temple is located. The Kalsubai temple is considered very auspicious and many villagers still visit the temple to seek the blessings of Kalsubai Devi. The temple is open throughout the year. The descent down takes about two to three hours of trekking. You will have to take the same trail down to reach the base village of Bari.<h5>&nbsp;</h5><h5>Day or night trekking?</h5>Both day and night trekking options are available. If you opt for a day trek, aim to be at the pinnacle at dusk when the sun sets behind the lush mountains, creating a magically beautiful landscape – it’s a sight to behold! And, if you’re considering a night trek, aim to be at the peak at dawn as you’ll be making a memory of a lifetime, watching the sun gloriously rise behind the mountains whilst the mist covers the valley below.<h5>&nbsp;</h5><h5>Best time to visit:</h5>The trek is open throughout the year with each season having a different landscape. So choose the best time depending on what you would like to experience.&nbsp;During monsoon season you get to see lush green landscapes and experience trekking in heavy rain. But at the same time, it’ll be heavily crowded and the views aren’t clear too. So, it’s best to avoid this season.&nbsp;Post monsoon is the flowering season and one can experience the beauty of a variety of flora. There are many temples, water cisterns, and ashrams that are very rich in architecture.It also offers a splendid view of other surrounding forts like Torna, Lingana, Raigad, Sinhagad, Mahabaleshwar mountain range, Pratapgad, Lohagad, Visapaur, and Tikona. There are many things on the Rajgad fort that define great architecture. There are long watchpoints(Machis) on the fort which is constructed like a snake. They were built using double fortified walls which is very interesting to see.&nbsp;The trek can be started from Gunjavane village. The trek starts from the road behind the Hotel Suvela Garden. Once you cross this hotel after a 5-minute walk you get an entrance gate. Enter the gate to start the trek. The trail from here is fairly straight and chances are very low that you can get lost. The trail gradually climbs uphill after a walk of 10-15 mins. Now, you will be trekking parallel to the Suvela machi. After 20 minutes of trek, you reach a huge plateau. From here, you can see the Rajgad fort and Nedhe along with Suvela machi. And in the further accent, you have a proper trail till chordarwaza. Now, the trail connects you to the ridge that directly goes to the fort. Follow the trail until you see a final rock patch.&nbsp;This section is pretty steep. Since it was the back door of the fort, there are no proper rock-cut steps. But now, to make the climb easier, there are railings till the entrance to Chor Darwaza. Once you exit the Chordarwaza, immediately there is a staircase that takes you to Padmavati machi. As soon as you climb up, a clear view of the Sahyadris welcomes you with mind-blowing views. Keep walking further till you reach Padmavati temple and lake. You can camp or stay in the temple. At the end of Padmavati machi, the trail splits into 3 sections. The trail in front of you takes you to Balekilla, the left one goes to Suvela machi and the right one goes to Sanjivani machi. There is a short descent to the exit point from Sanjivani machi from Rajgad that connects to Torna fort ridge.Best time to visit:Rajgad trek can be done in any season and it offers different views in different seasons. &nbsp;

Can dark be synonymous with beautiful? You’d definitely say yes if you’ve been to Andharban forest. The trek through Andharban is one of the most refreshing treks in the Sahyadri region.&nbsp;In Andharban you would be in the middle of a dark jungle, finding the route, towering over valleys, and crossing ghats! Also known as The Dark Forest Trek, Andharban trek fits the bill of a beginner’s dream trek bill with absolutely no ascent and largely only a descent through a trail with stunning views and breathtaking experiences. The panoramic view of the valley, greenery in the surroundings, walking through the foggy patches of the forest, en route numerous streams and waterfalls, and the unique experience of dark forest are the highlights of this trek. Evergreen forest covers you with shade in the first half of the trek (6-8 km). The trek further descends in Konkan to reach Bhira (4 km). The valley is also the origin place for Kundalika river which is famous for its white water rafting.&nbsp;&nbsp;The trek starts from a place called Independent Point near Pimpri Dam. It’s recommended that you take a guide with you especially if it's your first time on the trail. Start early in the morning; just as you start the trail, you take a turn into the Kundalika valley as you pass the tip and stunning views await your arrival. The initial walk is along the edge of the valley. Once you cross into the dark wood, the forest grows thicker and thicker, just opening in few spots just to make you realize the time is daytime. Sunlight hardly pierces the tree cover. Coming out of Andharban would take around 4-5 hours and once you cross the dark forest, you come out on top of a wall adjoining Pimpri Dam that’ll lead you to an open area, replete with poppy fields. One of the 12 Shiv Jyotirlings, Bhimashankar is situated in the state of Maharashtra. The breathtaking panorama of landscapes, winding trails passing through the dense forests, rocky patches, and small streams flowing on the way make the trek worth the effort. The wilderness and the challenges during these treks will be a one-of-its-kind experience. Nestled deep inside the dense forests of protected wildlife sanctuary Bhimashankar is famous for being the only abode of Maharashtra's state animal Shekru also called Malabar giant squirrel. This place is also the source of River Bhima.&nbsp;Khandas is the base village for the Bhimashankar trek. About 500 m after crossing Khandas village, you will come across a small bridge at a T-junction. The road to the left leads to Shidi Ghat while the one to the right leads to the Ganesh Ghat trail. Both these treks start from Khandas village around 30 km from Karjat.1. Ganesh Ghat Route&nbsp;The total distance from Khandas to Bhimashankar via Ganesh Ghat route is 8 km and it takes around 4 hours. This trail is named after a Ganesha temple that falls on the route. The Ganesh Ghat route is scenic and ideal for moderate-level trekkers. This route is known for the picturesque nature that will enchant you through the hike. The trail passes through dense vegetation for the initial one hour after the t-junction. This is a gradual ascent. After an hour, the trail opens out into a meadow. After 30 minutes of ascending through the meadow, it again enters a thick forest. This eventually meets the Shidi Ghat route. The trail, after the two routes meet, is a steep climb through a thick forest. It leads directly to the top, where you find the Bhimashankar trek.2. Shidi Ghat RouteThe distance from Khandas village to Bhimashankar via Shidhi or Shidi Ghat route is 5 km. This trek route is shorter in terms of distance when compared with Ganesh Ghat route but it is the toughest among the two. Shidi Ghat trek route passes via three mountains and a ladder route (iron ladders are constructed to help the trekkers). Shidi Ghat route is not for beginner trekkers as it takes good skill and physical energy to cover this trek. The initial 20 minutes after the T-junction is an easy walk. You reach a stream in about 20 minutes. Once you cross the stream, the trail ascends for about 40 minutes, till you reach the first ladder. Once you climb the first ladder, you quickly reach the next one. There is a cave after the second ladder where you can relax for a while. This spot offers excellent views of the valley below. Soon after you cross ladder 3, there is a patch with huge rocks. You need to be extremely careful while traversing this section. Although not mandatory, a rope will be helpful here. Immediately after this section, the trail joins the one that comes from Ganesh ghat. This is the halfway mark. There are a few huts where locals sell refreshments.Best time to visit:&nbsp;October to February are the best months to trek Bhimashankar. It can get a little tricky to trek during monsoons but can’t be said impossible though. &nbsp;

‘World’s most dangerous fort trek’, ‘A trek not for the faint hearted’ are such labels Kalavantin fort is referred to as. This is cause of the angle of photos or videos taken from a bird’s eye view. But honestly, it can be considered as an easy-moderate trek. This can be on your list of must-do treks but with adequate precautions taken.&nbsp;Lying in the western ghats of Maharashtra and standing tall at a hefty height of 2300 feet above sea level, Kalavantin Durg is a fort that was constructed in honor of Queen Kalavantin. Unlike the name says a fort, there’s nothing as such built but was just used as a watchtower to keep a watch on the surroundings.Kalavantin trek offers stunning views via an intense climb through rugged terrain with narrow rock-cut steps and steep slopes with no support - the trek to and from the fort is a bit risky yet fascinating. This fort gives you a panoramic view of the mountains around like Prabalgad, Chanderi, Peb Matheran, Irshalgad, and Ulhas river. The hike is vertiginous, as the rock-cut steps are very steep and there are no railings to support your climb. So be careful if you're scared of heights. Hiking down is challenging as well, so if you have acrophobia, it is best to avoid the trek altogether.The base point of kalavantin is situated in Thakurwadi village, which leads the path to both kalavantin and prabhalgad. The trail initially takes you to Prabhamachi which is the diversion point for the two treks. The trek can be divided into three sections; The first is from Thakurwadi to Prabhalmachi plateau. The second section is from Prabhalmachi to Col. this section includes ascend through rocky patches. The trail gets notably steeper as you make the move upwards to the top, and there is a sense of vertigo-inducing on the way up through this doesn’t deter those in pursuit of heart-pounding adventure. The third section is from Col to the pinnacle of kalavantin. This includes a huge set of rock-cut steps with nearly 80° angle. This is followed by a short climb over a rock about 15 ft high to reach the pinnacle. One has to be very cautious while climbing this rock patch since the footholds have been destroyed due to heavy rains. Preferably carry a rope along for this patch or if you’re a beginner, it’s better to avoid this third section and keep your hands empty. Skipping the third section isn’t a big deal since the view from Col and the pinnacle are almost the same. The stunning view of abundant greenery, virgin nature, and the alluring valley below can clench your heart with the thirst for purity and divinity. Best time to visit:&nbsp;Usually, the best time to visit any sahayadri trek is in monsoon but for Kalavantin post-monsoon months and winter is the best time as the level of risk faced automatically surges during monsoon as the way becomes slippery. Above all, it’s sure to be jammed with huge crowds during monsoon season.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;

<h2>Irshalgad</h2>Irshalgad is an iconic boat-shaped hill that is easily distinguishable from afar. Irshalgad is not a fort but a watchtower sort of. It has a pinnacle that was used by the Maratha forces to keep an eye on approaching enemy forces. The climb to the peak can be divided into three phases: The base of the pinnacle, the Needle hole, and the final, technical push to the peak. It is only recommended to go up to the second level, as the final stretch is especially treacherous.Irshalghad trek is known for its fort, which is located in between Matheran and Panvel in the state of Maharashtra. This fort gives a fantastic sight to watch. This fort is 3700 feet height above sea level and is little moderate graded trek. This fort can be reached from the base village called Irshalwadi, this is where the actual trek begins. This takes around 1-1.5 hrs to reach the top. The Irshalgad fort is too large and ancient. There are many plummets of water flowing from several rocks. You can see many trees, rocks and small creatures while trekking. Trekking to this place before sunrise makes the trek even more glorious and special. As you reach the top of the pinnacle, you can also see other sister forts from that altitude like Prabalgad, Matheran etc. The fort is not exactly a fort, but a pinnacle with distinct shape. The path is little steepy and there is also a water tank on the route.Chowk is the starting point for the trek. After a 10 min brisk walk, you encounter a steep climb on a well-defined route made up of scree and small loose rocks.&nbsp;<h2>Waterfall rappelling</h2>The waterfalls we will visit is about an hour from railway station if we trek. These waterfalls are located in Karjat region of Maharashtra. The cascading falls fills the region with beauty and serenity with a lush green landscape. The waterfall rappelling is one of the most adventurous and interesting fun activity to be done here. This waterfall rappelling is a technique used to control your steps from descending down the rock of slope. This can be done by using thick ropes along with some safety measures and equipments. While rappelling one can feel the gush and rush of the water, which gives you a feeling of refreshment. There are also several view points and sceneries to see in this beautiful town.&nbsp;<h2>Best time to visit:</h2>Post monsoon and winter are the recommended times to visit Irshalgad. In monsoon, it’ll be too tricky to climb the rock patch and is risky too. &nbsp;

Just like the name suggests it's a ‘jewel’ of a fort. Ratangad Fort is situated atop a hill overlooking the Bhandardara region. Kalsubai peak and the Konkan-Kada are visible from here. Standing tall amidst other great peaks of Alang, Kulang, and Kalsubai, Ratangad fort is also a part of the Ajoba mountain range. Ratangad is the origin of the river Pravara. Ratanwadi is the base village of the fort. There is a beautiful Amruteshwar Shiva temple in the village built in the 9th century in Hemadpanti architectural style. a) Chitrakote waterfalls: Chitrakote waterfalls are located on river Indravati in Vindhya ranges of Chattishgarh. Because of its widespread horseshoe gorge, it is often called "The Niagara Falls of India". It is the second widest waterfall in Asia. And, the widest waterfall in India. Spreads around 350 meters during monsoon. Local boatmen lead us to stunning sites near the spray below the waterfall to witness Chitrakote Falls in full glory. The view of the waterfall at sunrise/midday/sunset and the changing hues around it is a sight to remember. The rainbow on water sprays and shadows of us on water breeze are splendid, one has to visit Chitrakote to experience. Camping: We'll be camping on the river bed of Indravati, where we'll be facing the Chitrakote falls. Early morning, you can take a dip or swim in the water. (Don't worry! We will issue a life jacket) b) Tirathgarh waterfalls: Height: 299ft (in 3 drops) The region is replete with lesser-known wonders of Chattishgarh that have still not turned into a tourist hub. Besides Chitrakote, the Tirathgarh Waterfall is another magical site that cannot be missed on this trip. c) Kotumsar caves: Length: 1327 meter Kotumsar cave was initially named Gopansar cave (Gopan = hidden) but the present name Kotumsar became more popular as the cave is located near a village named ‘Kotumsar’ The cave is subject to frequent flooding during the monsoon season, which generally begins in the middle of June and continues until the middle of October.
