Hampi Trip

Hampi is an ancient village located in the northern part of the Indian state of Karnataka. It is renowned for its rich history, captivating architecture, and stunning landscapes. Hampi was once the capital of the Vijayanagara Empire, one of the greatest Hindu empires in Indian history, which flourished from the 14th to the 16th century.

The ruins of Hampi sprawl over a vast area and include numerous temples, monuments, and other structures that reflect the grandeur and sophistication of the Vijayanagara civilization. Among the most famous sites in Hampi are the Virupaksha Temple, Vittala Temple, Hazara Rama Temple, and the Royal Enclosure, which contains the remains of palaces, halls, and administrative buildings.

Hampi's unique landscape is characterized by massive boulders, rocky hills, and the meandering Tungabhadra River, adding to its allure and making it a popular destination for both history enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. The site has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, drawing visitors from around the world to marvel at its architectural marvels and immerse themselves in its rich cultural heritage.

DAY 0:

DAY 1:
Arrive early in Hampi and check into your accommodation.

Virupaksha Temple: Start your exploration with a visit to the Virupaksha Temple, one of the oldest functioning temples in India. Explore the temple complex and witness the rituals.

Vittala Temple: Visit the Vittala Temple complex, renowned for its impressive architecture, including the iconic stone chariot and musical pillars. Spend time exploring the temple and its intricate carvings.

King's Balance: Explore the King's Balance, an ancient structure used to weigh kings against precious metals, which were then distributed to the needy. Admire the architectural ingenuity of this historical site.

Sasivekalu Ganesha and Kadalekalu Ganesha: Visit the Sasivekalu Ganesha and Kadalekalu Ganesha temples, dedicated to Lord Ganesha and known for their massive monolithic statues. Capture some photographs during the golden hour.


DAY 2: 
Sunrise at Anjanadri Hill

Zenana Enclosure: Explore the Zenana Enclosure, which housed the royal women during the Vijayanagara Empire. Visit the Lotus Mahal, an elegant pavilion known for its unique blend of Hindu and Islamic architectural styles.

Elephant Stables: Visit the Elephant Stables, a series of domed chambers where the royal elephants were housed during the Vijayanagara Empire. Admire the intricate carvings and architecture of this historical site.

Achyutaraya Temple: Explore the Achyutaraya Temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu and dating back to the 16th century. Admire the impressive architecture and intricate carvings depicting various mythological scenes.

Hampi Bazaar: Take a stroll through the Hampi Bazaar, a bustling market street lined with shops selling souvenirs, handicrafts, and local goods. Spend some time browsing and shopping for mementos.

Sanapur Lake: Head to Sanapur Lake to relax and unwind amidst serene surroundings. Enjoy a coracle ride on the lake or cliff jump or simply sit back and enjoy the beautiful sunset.

DAY 3:
Play Holi with the locals near Virupaksha Temple, clean up and visit few other places and head back to board the train.

Clothing & Footwear

  • A pair of sandals/ flip-flops
  • 30-40 L backpack (Do not carry suitcases or trolleys)
  • Get an old pair of clothes to play Holi in.

Food & Beverage

  • Min 2 liters of water each (Please bring reusable water bottles so that together we can discourage the use of plastic on the trails)
  • Snacks (Carry plenty of dry snacks, energy bars, candies & ORS to munch)
