Harishchandragad is situated in the Malshej region in the state of Maharashtra. This is one of the fun-filled trek, loved by most of the trek lovers. This is situated at a height of 4650 ft. This fort has multiple entry routes like the Panchai, which is the easiest rote to ascend. The Khireshwar route, which is graded as the moderate and the Nalichi was, which is the most difficult route. All the beginners choose the trail that starts from Pachnai. Khireshwar route is suitable for those who already have some trek experience.
Konkankada, a cliff in Maharashtra acts as a special attraction, while you are ascending. This is at an altitude of 4665 ft from the sea level. This place have a beautiful view from the top as you can witness the glory of the nature filled with beauty, calmness and breath taking. This is a C-shaped cliff, where you can touch the flow of the water passing through your feet. Sunset from this place is eye-catching.
Here, we hike up to the highest peak called Taramathi Peak. Make this experience count as this is close to heart. From the highest peek, you can witness the joy where you are at height , enjoying the cool breeze touching your skin, which automatically brings a smile on your face.This peak is a highly graded peak and a must visit place.
After you ascend to a great height, you can see historical temples, called the Harishchandreshwar temple and the Kedareshwar temple, both of Lord shiva. In Harishchandreshwar temple you can experience the atmosphere of live poojas, whereas in Kedareshwar temple, the temple is inside the caves, where you can see lord shiva resting in the water. Here, you can swim in the water to reach the lord, the water level would be upto chest level. All this gives you immense joy and pleasure, by even knowing the history of the temple, which says the four pillars of the temple are four yogas and now currently the temple is withstanding on only a single pillar and that pillar is significantly believed as the Kaliyug.

The sunset and the sunrise here are splendid and gives you that warmth feeling as you sit there and relax. The rays of the sun falling on you, where you sit and close your eyes and listen to the waterfall roaring sounds, all these gives happiness to your soul. This trail can be remembered as you are walking through the canopies of large trees.
Board the train at Hyderabad (8:40 PM)/ Begumpet (8:49 PM)/ Lingampally (9:12 PM).
Reach the station on time. While you pack your bags, also pack some energy and excitement for a good trek. Also carry snacks, energy bars, and water bottles along.

Wake up early, and have some morning talks on the train with your fellow passengers. Complete your morning routines and have your breakfast in the train itself to save time. We will reach the station by 11 a.m. Then, we will board a vehicle that is exclusively for our team. From there, we would head towards the Kalu waterfalls. Here you can drive slowly, where you can enjoy the scenic views from the window, with lush green exhilarating atmosphere. On the way, we will stop for lunch, where you can have lunch of your choice, which will be filled with Maharashtrian tastes and flavors.
Kalu waterfalls is around 130 km from Pune station and might take around 4 hours to reach base village. trek is around 3 km one way but involves a few water crossings en route, which adds to the adventure feeling. The highlight of the trek, of course, is the majestic Kalu Waterfall itself. This five-tiered behemoth cascades down a staggering 1200 feet, making it the highest waterfall in Malshej Ghat.
Note: Sometimes, this trek might not be allowed by forest officials due to high water levels at crossings. In those cases, we would go with an alternate option.
We will ascend from Pachnai side which is the easiest of the three and descend from Khireshwar. The base village from which we are going to start our trek is called Pachnai village. The route from Pachnai is well marked. At all the places of tough climbs we have railings and iron ladders built by the officials to make the climb easier. Almost after an hour trek from the starting point we will see a massive vertical rock on one side and valley on the other. We will be walking along side this rock. 20 minutes from here we will reach to a flatland or a plateau where we can take a small break and hydrate ourselves. From this point Harishchandragad temple will take another 30 minutes. This is where we will be camping for the night. We will pitch our tents at the camping site and leave our luggage here and go on to explore the fort and surrounding places.
We will be visiting Harishchandragad temple first. There is a cave called Kedareshwar cave adjacent to Harischandragad temple. In Kedareshwar cave there is a Shiva linga surrounded by water. Next we'll be visiting Saptatheertha Pushkarini which is a man-made lake. There are many caves nearby too. Incase if it rains heavily near the temple, we will be camping inside any of these caves. We will be heading to Konkan Kada for sunset. It is around a 15 minutes trek from the temple. You can witness Sahyadri's best sunset from Konkan Kada if the weather isn't cloudy. After sunset we will come back to our camping site, have dinner and retire for the night.
From there, we would cross the Malshej region route, where you can see the panoramic views, which are a treat to your eyes. In this route we cannot stop the vehicle which would create a mess. Then you will start your actual trek from here, where you ascend the steeps hills of the Aadrai jungle. It would take around 6 hours to complete your trek as you would sometimes take breaks.
