We begin with an overnight journey from Hyderabad, Pune, or Mumbai and reach the base village in the morning. After breakfast, we start the climb to Mangi Hill (approx. 2,251 ft) where temples, caves, and panoramic views of the Sahyadris welcome us.
The Mangi–Tungi trek involves climbing close to 4,500–4,600 stone steps carved into the twin hills. The climb is divided between the two peaks — Mangi Hill has around 2,200–2,300 steps leading to ancient temples and caves, while Tungi Hill has another 2,200–2,300 steps that take you to scenic viewpoints and shrines.
On average, trekkers take about 2.5 to 3.5 hours one way to complete the ascent, depending on their fitness level and the number of breaks. The trek is considered easy to moderate, and while it’s a bit long, the stone steps make the climb manageable. Along the way, you’ll encounter historic carvings, caves, and breathtaking views of the Sahyadri ranges, making the effort well worth it.
The trek then continues to Tungi Hill (approx. 2,115 ft), where you’ll climb another set of steps to enjoy the vast views of the surrounding valleys. Post-lunch, we spend time at the base village with light cultural walks and a peaceful evening. The day concludes with dinner and an overnight stay at a guesthouse or campsite.
