Board your night train from Hyderabad to Manmad with a backpack and excitement for the days ahead.
This overnight ride of around 10–11 hours carries you closer to the Sahyadris, where mighty forts and sacred peaks await.
Stretch out on your berth, swap travel stories with fellow trekkers, and let the train rock you into adventure mode.
By morning, you’ll arrive at Manmad, ready to head straight into the mountains.
From Manmad, drive about 4–5 hours to the remote base village of Salher–Salota.
After breakfast, lace up your shoes and begin the trek to Salher Fort (5,175 ft), the highest fort in Maharashtra and a site of epic battles between the Marathas and Mughals.
The climb takes around 3–4 hours, winding through meadows and ridges before opening up to breathtaking summit views of endless mountains.
After exploring Salher’s ramparts and water cisterns, cross over to its twin, Salota Fort, standing tall beside it.
The trail connecting the two is rugged and adventurous, taking another 1–2 hours.
By evening, descend back to the base village for a rustic dinner and an overnight stay at a simple homestay, with the grandeur of the Sahyadris silhouetted against the night sky.
Wake up early and drive about 2.5 hours to Mangi–Tungi, a pair of striking twin pinnacles sacred to Jainism.
The climb is unique: a well-paved staircase of nearly 4,000 steps, winding past caves, inscriptions, and tall Jain statues carved into the rock.
The trek takes around 3–4 hours in total, with rewarding views of the Baglan region and the vast plains below.
At the top, the peaceful temple complexes and towering idols create a spiritual calm after yesterday’s rugged adventure.
Descend by afternoon, have a hot village meal, and rest.
The evening can be spent at a nearby homestay with simple food and quiet countryside vibes.
On your final day, drive about 3 hours towards Aurangabad.
Here you’ll visit the Grishneshwar Temple, one of the 12 sacred Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva, and a major pilgrimage site for devotees.
Just a short distance away lie the world-famous Ellora Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with magnificent rock-cut temples and monasteries dating back centuries.
If time permits, wander through its most iconic marvel, the Kailasa Temple, carved out of a single rock — a true wonder of Indian heritage.
By late afternoon, head towards Manmad to board your return train to Hyderabad.
The ride home will be filled with conversations, reflections, and memories of forts, peaks, caves, and timeless legends of the Sahyadris.
